Ethiopia, really difficult to get a vsia ' somewhere south' ?
We're heading north (now in Malawi) and keep hearing stories of people who cannot get into Ethiopia.
Seems you will NOT get overland visa's in Nairobi (Kenya), according to the Ethiopian ambassy in Sout hAfrica we should be able to get something in Kampala (Uganda), but I've heard about people not getting anything there either.
I guess people still travel north, so has anyone got this visa somewhere? If so, please post where and what passport you have. We do not want to send our passports back to The Netherlands, of fly our bikes out of Africa.

Forget about Kampala, no resident, no visa, tried it very hard ! Got it there in the end, but that involved sending off my passport to germany, being denied there cos I wasnt there personally, passport being sent back to Uganda without visa, a big nightmare of communication and finally the ethiopian ambassador in germany got me the letter Addis Abbaba had send to Kampala to authorize them to give me a visa. Kampala insisted that they never got that letter ! Ethiopian burocracy can be worse than egyptian, thats what plenty of people acctually living there told me. Don´t drive to Kampala for that visa, you will spend more money on fuel, accomodation and food than it would cost you to dhl your passports home, these guys are more than unfriendly and love to let you wait, I waisted more than 1 month because of them ...
greetings from Nairobi,
Chris

We've got the visa!
Thanks to all the tips of Chris (Jungle Junction) about how to charm the ambassador, we managed to get the visa's today!
It took only two hours an 20 USD.
At first, she refused (no residency in Kenya, no visa.... :-( The only option was sending passports home)
Then we had a chat about our trip, after which swe wanted to see all the visa's. When she found out our passports were almost full, she changed her mind and only wanted to see all our Africa stamps.
After that, she issued the visa's!

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
