U can get a ferry from Venice all the way to Alexandria. I don't know what it costs, but I read about it in a Lonely planet guide from 1989!!!
If it is still running, it is supposed to take 4 days and the route goes from Venice to Brindisi to Igoumenitsa to Corfu to some greek islands and Piraues and then on to Alexandria.
I am thinking of taking the same ferry to get to Alex, however I might drive to Athens and leave from Piraues, as I have to be in the Greek island of Mykonos in June for my brothers wedding. I will leave early July on my trans africa trip all the way to Cape Town in a Range Rover.

I will be leaving for Egypt in several weeks on my motorcycle. I would like to take a ferry from Italy to Alexandria and from there drive through the Sinai.
Does anyone know whether I can catch a ferry in Italy to go directly to Alexandria, and how much this would cost.
I am also interested in taking a ferry from Port Said to Djibouti. Again, does this ferry service exist and how much does it cost. Thanks for any advice you can offer.
