Heavy duty tubes - Arusha Tanzania?
Hello. I'm am desperately searching for a place in Arusha selling quality heavy tubes. Ive had 6 flats in 400km, from sticks, a sharp nick in the rim, a valve torn out, a failed patch and one local tube that just didn't last. The inside of my tyre is clean and so is my wheel. Just need something better than the $8 tubes in the local shops now. I'd even buy a moose if it was available!

No idea about where to find tubes, but try some of the following
- Get all gunk/rubber dust out of the tire (take it off completely)
- Make sure there are no thorns left on theinsideof the tire
- Tape up the nicks in the rim, possibly with some extra old tube pieces
- Coat the tube and tire inside with talcum aka baby powder (helps to run cooler)
- When fixing old patches, scrape the old ones and the vulcanizingagent off completely before putting on a new one
- Try to find better patches (other travelers?)
- Run the right tire pressure (too low = too hot = patches fall off)
- Make sure tube is clean, and you wait until glue is completely dry before applying new patches
- Dont tighten the valve stem nut down onto the rim, but rather against the valve cap. That way your valve is less likely to be torn out when you have a flat. Check the valve regularly, if it starts to lean, you need to air up and or straighten things out
Good luck!

Hi there, Best place fior Tyres in Arusha is either Jubilee Tyres or Manjis service station. Just ask for these places by name anywhere in town and someone can direct you...they are on the main "drag" through the centre of town and are only 5 mins from each other...Manjis can also do a quick wheel balance etc for you if need be...it's one of the very few places in Arusha that does/can!! Good luck!! and let me know if theres anything else I can help with....Arusha is my home town and if I wasnt out in the bush working at the mo I would have said karibu sana to stay!! :-)

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
