Hello,

Coming down from Europe to Namibie so far Ive used the front/rear TKC80 coming down all the way to TOGO. The rear was completly gone so lot of punctures -nails- and had it replaced with the same tyre. 17" tyre availability is very very limited in west/central afica so had to use the services of DHL to fly it in. No custom hassles as Togo is a tax free port... The TKC80 did a excellent job in various circumstances...

At the KTM place in Cotonou - Togo you can get everything as long you have 18/19/21 inch.

Got a Bridgestone ED661 -very enduro- for the mud in Gabon/Congo/Angola and needs replacing at this stage...

Tyre availability in Namibie is pretty good at reasonable prices...

Grtz

For me TKC80 ist the worst tire...just looks cool but only lasts less then 8.000 km. One set of Mitas E07 was good from Germany all the way to Capetown but to be save i still carryed some spares. When i arrived after 25.000 km you could see the white inside of the tire coming out allready
At KTM they are selling Mitas in Southafirca too but I used my spares to ride back home http://afrikamotorrad.eu/?report=en_...te&design=dark

completely disagree, new edition of tkc80 are a very good travel tyres if not riding too much off-road, especially wet. Excellent on pavement, quiet and quite good on dry gravel, light off-road stuff. I did on mine set over 22k km (honda nc750x) and could still use them. Second set is on my tenere with 16k km looking pretty good still.

Hey! Anybody notice you are responding to a thread that is 13 years old!

Not that it matters ...

Is there a "new" generation of TKC 80 tire? I bought one about 4 years ago
(front only) and it was very good. This for my DR650.

Not the longest lasting tire but performed really well in ALL conditions for me. (Mostly Baja and easy Desert and Dual sport use)

I like it ... and very good front tire for ON ROAD on my DR650, but it IS EXPENSIVE. After the TKC80 I put on a IRC TR-8. A good tire all round, lasted longer than TKC but not as good On paved roads, in my experience.

The TR-8 also wore out very weird from hard road riding and hard braking.

That doesn't matter, because I think it could help everybody who is interested.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
