Insurance limits in Malawi
I had an accident in November, where a (Tanzanian) truck rolled over and totaled my motorcycle. The insurance company has finally decided to pay me, but is only offering 250.000 kwacha, which is just $345 - or about 2.5% of my claim...
Comesa regulations state that "the third party liability cover offered is limited to the statute provisions on road traffic third party liability award limits of that country being visited and in which the incident has happened from." The insurance company claims that the limit in Malawi is 250.000 kwacha, which seems crazy - even in Malawi, most cars must surely be worth more than $345.
I have been unable to find any documentation for this limit. Does anybody know?
(and yeah, I know I'm lucky to be alive, and lucky that they're paying me anything at all, and I shouldn't expect them to pay my full claim - but $345 just seems so silly :-) Full details on the accident here: [url=http://acrux.dk/disaster/]The Acrux Expedition
