Kenya to Nigeria - Do able??

Is it possible to cross from Kenya to Uganda, DRC, CAR into Nigeria? I am heading to Algeria, along the mediterranean and down again via the Nile. Is it advisable? I see no other way to get to Kano. what border crossings are recommended? Any advice most welcome!

There is a recent thread on this site about crossing DRC by motorbike which will give you the flavor. Do a search for it. If that suits, you'll be fine. It's a bit out of my league, personally.

You sound like you're in the very early stages of research. You need to think about how you're going to get from Nigeria through Niger and Algeria, too. Some of this will not be easy, and perhaps not altogether safe. Again, if that's what you're after you're headed in the right direction.

I know! But none of the countries I am passing thru can be described as stable! I've been planning this for a couple of years now, taken a while to beef up the money box and getting a LC80. I'd been tinkering around with the idea of starting from Nigeria (therefore bypassing congo) but now i want to do the full circle. Chris Scott's been very helpful and I have been in touch with a guide for Algeria. So my main concern is DRC, CAR and Niger. I read the Donkey and the Mule - Home blog, i think thats what you are referring to. I'll keep looking!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
