Just in case anyone needs help in the Namibia area, contact me on my e-mail, I live in Windhoek, but know a fair amount of the country. Also down to the Cape or across to Durban or Natal region, up and around Gauteng (JHB) or the Botswana area, we know a great deal of people and are area always happy to help

Hi Brett,

hey, thats a friendly offer! I'm just busy planning a trip around southern Africa starting in Nam for +/- 2 months and then carrying on in ZA, Lesotho etc.

I'll be glad to contact you in due time since I hardly managed to get motorbike info on Nam. Most people seem to go by 4wd.

The route planning is still in progress.

I'm also a Windhoeker, and willing to help. Fairly good knowledge on everthing from Windhoek and northward. Don't know much about the south unfortunately.

Strangley enough i only got back last night from a 4 x 4 and road trip Windhoek - JHB - DBN - Bloomfontien - Colesberg - CPT - Springbok - Grunau - Keetmans - Marienthal - Reoboth - Windhoek, very tired but lots of fun. It is however soooooo good to be back in god's own country. I'm actually British but this is without doubt the most spectacular country in the world (people and scenery).
If I can help with any of your planning don't hesitate to ask. See you in Nam.

Well, yes I can understand you. I grew up in SA and have travelled a lot all around the world, but haven't visited Nam yet. My brother in SA keeps telling me how grand the landscape is in Nam - so I'm really looking forward to that trip.

Just returned from Romania to some enduro riding (getting trained for Nam :-) ), because in Germany (as most of Europe) there is hardly any enduro riding possible.

Hows Romania? It sounds very gothic and dracularesque in the Tourist ads. Spent the last five days travelling from Dar es Salaam up to Tanga near the Kenyan border, what a brilliant place, very unspoilt, and THE most friendliest people I have ever met.

Big tip for anyone going through JHB, try the Africa Lodge in Benoni, Sunny Road, it's a type of backpackers / camping / hotel / you can stay there from R50.00 to about R350.00 depending upon what you want, and they have very secure parking for Bikes etc...

Romania today is probably what South Africa was 50 years ago. In rural areas still lots of horse carts, dirt roads. In remote areas no water & electricity. It's the landscape and the villages that fascinate. Dracula is what the tourism authorities advertise, but apart from the castle in Bran - forget it.

So when youÄre back home, give me an email. In about a year's time I plan to tour all around southern Africa. Tanzania I would like to see as well, but haven't any such plans yet.

We've just relocated to SA, joburg, and am waiting to collect my 4x4 from durbs next month. Soon as it does, we'd like to start exploring the region and esp. Nam. We've got a house in Zimbabwe but work here in SA so your invitation is well received and can be reciprocated.

I gather you are from the UK, what are you doing in Joey's?. Its a great point to explore most of sub-saharan Africa from. Do you know the area? the are some great game park around Natal, and when you pick up your 4 x 4 you should take a quick weekend in St. Lucia wetlands and Umfolozi, Hilltops is a great place to stay. Give me a bell if you get to Namibia. Regards

"what are you doing in Joey's?" basicaly looking for work at the moment! My wife's from Zim and I used to work in Safaris in Zim so I know the area but this will be the first time I have my own expedition prepared vehicle to play with.

I'll take a look at St. Lucia wetlands, Umfolozi and Hilltops when we actually have some money to spare - emmigrating is not a cheap option!

coming back to your offer above.

I'm pretty busy plannung my trip to southern Africa. I'm thinking of visiting Nam in April and June. How's the situation with holidays? Should be out of season then.

I couldn't get much information on the Richtersveld. What info I got told me that it seems to be easier accessible my bike that eg. the Kaokoveld. Is that correct?

Hi, in terms of the seasons, April and June are out of season, so Windhoek will be busy, Swakopmund and the coast will be quiet. Etosha is good that time of year, but bikes are not allowed through, there are however some wonderful camps on the perimiter that bikers use, and get 4 X 4 trips into the park very reasonably. Richter vs Kaoko...pretty much the same, but plan your petrol well. If you need help on where to fuel, tell me.

PS. MIKA if you are still in Windhoek give me a call, I called past the Cameleon, but you were not there, and I don't have your number, hope everything went well.

Hi,
don't plan to visit the game parks since landscape is more interesting. As you say, they won't allow bikes anyway. Prefer to do some hikes eg Naukluft, Spitskoppe, maybe Waterberg.
I've got a very detailed map of MapStudio showing fuel stations. My tank capacity is >40 litres, consumption low.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
