Off the beaten path in Gabon ??
Hi folks !
I will be in Gabon in a couple of days and was wondering if anybody has ever taken roads that go closer to the coast than the standart one going through Lambarene ??
Is it possible to go through small pistes along the coast ? Specially the area around Gamba ?? My map shows a small piste coming from the main transit road going there, anybody every took that one ? Experiences with boats from Libreville along the coast ??
Any infos appreciated, maybe somebody been there or discovered Loango nationalparc.
greetings from Ambam,
Chris

Second hand info I'm afraid, but two of the guys we were riding with in Jan 2011 headed to the Gabon coast. Their route is here (zoom in). And some photos of the expedition here.
As you can see it was pretty wet and some of it tough going on bikes. At that time the resort out in Loango was "closed" as there was some trouble with the airline used to fly people in.
They loved it.

have i got an off the beaten path for you. spoke to the wwf today and you can get to loabango by road use the term loosely. but there is this great road that runs from the along the coast may not be possible if the water level is high but would be one hell of a journey. also there is another great road along the coast to congo. with an alternative of puting the bikes on a boat. pick up my drc visa tomorrow then talk to angola. but i also have a meeting with the head of parcs gabon and i see what he recommends. would be one hell of an adventure! you up for it?

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
