Riding my motorcycle from Kenya to Zanzibar and/or Pemba Island
I've been in Malindi, Kenya for a year. I want to ride to Zanzibar on my 200 cc off road Haojin Warrior that I bought new for $1,350 and registered in my name (because I somehow got an Alien Card) with insurance of course. What ferries are there that would take my motorcycle? Anywhere between Mombasa, Shimoni, Tanga or Dar. What about a commercial boat that I pay for a ride? I already have a one year multiple entry visa for Tanzania. I've already had Corona (with no symptoms) so Tanzania here I come! What's it like between Tanga and Dar? I read that a bus takes 12 hours from Mombasa to Dar. Good roads? Scenery?
I saw somewhere that I need to get some Tanzanian drivers permit in either Dar or Stone Town but I would hit those places in the middle of my trip.
Kenyans drive like real assholes on busy major roads like between Mombasa and Malindi. Cars pass other cars on two lane roads and will run a motorcycle off the road. It happens about every 10 minutes. Even in town they drive like jerks - motorcycles speeding at night without lights, etc. And you're not allowed to ride through national parks (unlike in Uganda) because they say the wild animals will eat you.
The police here pretty much leave you alone (just say no to bribes). I just explain that I'm American and we don't pay bribes. If anyone is coming to Malindi, say hi.
