road condition

hello, has any body got up to date info on the state of the road, between Nouakchott and the Diama turn off on the Rosso road, last time I was on it(feb 2017) it was god awful ,busted motors every so often, a nice new Merc with 3 wheels on one side, one on the other. I think they where going to do some thing with it ,the road not the car ,or the nice people from China . regards chris

i travelled that section in jan 2018. If i remember correctly, they were working on parts of the road. sometimes i choose the main road part, but after too many potholes, i diverted to the sandy track parallel of it. lot's of dust. but feasable.
didn't see any stranded cars or motor vehicles.
I found the section from the turnoff to diama in worse shape with the `ripio` tracks driving you nuts.. but i'm sure they scrape it once in a while.
Guessing that it will improve overtime, but patience needed...

Did this 3 days ago. The road.from the capital to the turnoff is excellent now and from the turnoff point.to Diama is also very good now, even 2x2 cars using the track and the rainy season hasn't really started yet.

The border crossing was very easy and only paid 6,000 for a 5 day TIP - they wanted to do a 2 day...

FYI - we stayed at the Zebra bar and it was was 10 out of 10.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
