Selling Belgian car in South Africa, is that possible?
Hi all,
Does anyone ever tried or has information if it's even possible to sell a European (Belgium) registered car in South Africa?
Not sure if it's possible with the carnet?
It's a Toyota Landcruiser (Colorado), 2000
Thanks for any info!

Right Hand Drive as in a car made for driving in left driving countries (steering wheel on the right side of the car).
Or, a car made for right driving countries?
I decided to ship back because I just didn't want to deal with the hassle at the end of my trip.
Selling should be possible, but you'll have to have your carnet stamped by customs to prove import duties have been paid.
That's about all I know... .

Thans for the replies.
I did some research and it's indeed very hard to sell it there.
“Unfortunately they will not be able to sell their car in South Africa or any of the Common Customs Area countries i.e. Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland.
The only way a car can be imported and registered in South Africa is if the importer (owner of the car) is a returning resident to SA or has applied for permanent residency and Home Affairs have granted the application for residency. In your case, the importer, wishes to sell his car to a SA citizen or citizen in the common customs area – this citizen will never be able to register the car here as they will not qualify for the import papers. The car would then remain illegal in SA.”
That's what my carnet lady said.
Too bad!
