Importer
Hi,
its not so easy for a private person to import an motorbike.
It´s much easyer doing it with an registered importer.
Private you need an LOA form SABS (South African Bureau of Standards) which cost around 500 Rand. Also takes a long time to get it and to register it on the system with the LOA.
the tax is not too bad I thind you pay around 7% (600cc) from the bikes value as tax and than 14 % for VAT. To the value of the bike customs adds on the shipping cost.
I am a registered Importer, so I could help you getting your bike through customs and organize the RSA pappers for the bike. Once the bike it cleared by customs I can organize the registration in one day.
If you come on an Carnet list a low value for the bike like 300 pounds. Its easyer to clear by customs without Carnet.
regards
Thomas
