Shipping from Europ to Cape Town
Has any-one a good adress to ship a landrover defender 13O from Europe-Belgium to Cape Town?
We're planning a trip to namibia Botswana, and tught to hire a car, but since prices are so expensive, we rather think to ship our baby.
Does any one has some experience of real of road desert driving in Namibia?
Thank you so much in advance!
Francesco

Francois,
Namibia ain't the Sahara when it's about desert driving. Most of it is quit regulated. There is some interesting dune driving to do though.
For 'Out of Africa' style traveling, there's not a lot that beats northern Botswana if you ask me.
I shipped my car from Cape Town back home. I'll have to check for exact figures, but cost was close to 2000 Euro's. Double that to get your car back, and rental might become interesting.
Enjoy,
Rob

Cape Town is known to have te highest clearing fees of all ZA (it was around 1000 dollars in 1990) , might be worth looking into Durban, Port Elizabeth or even Windhoek. Some friends used www.navitrans.fr who do Marseille - Durban and were happy with the unloading at Durban. But Navitrans don't always answer emails
Good luck

Francois,
I live in Cape Town and Im sure that considering the cost of shipping here and back you can buy something second hand in SA and sell it before you leave without much trouble. Also you wont need a carnet if you only going into Nam or Botswana (actually even as far up as Malawi).
Fel fre to email me if you need any more info.
Jim
