London or Cairo? Why not Jordan. We did an overland from NL to South Africa in 2000. We saw many people in big stress not getting the Sudan visa in Cairo (waiting there for 2 months and still no visa). We got it within 1 day in Amman without showing anything such as recommandationletters, plaintickets. Only thing is you have 30 days to enter Sudan (we got in on day 37: they renewed our visa in Wadi Halfa without any problem).

Does anyone have any more recent info about getting the Sudanese visa in Addis? I came across this website link below, which seems to be fairly current. If someone can confirm / deny this new procedure, it would be much appreciated.

A quick update on the Sudanese visa situation for people heading north.
I have heard from several recent travellers that the wait in Addis is well over a month. I have just received my visa in Kampala, Uganda on an Aussie passport, after about a two week wait. Cost was 55,000 shillings (US$33) and the visa is valid for three months.
In order to speed up the process I used a travel agent in Khartoum to issue an invitation letter. He wanted US$75 for the privilege, but as yet hasn't actually asked to be paid.
