Take note! Ethiopia petrol/ benzine shortage
We are still in Ethiopia and there's a huge shortage on petrol. Diesel is not a problem but to get petrol is getting harder everyday.
It seems the petrol stations sell petrol to friends and then tell you to buy from them at a higher price. There's other nasty tricks they pull but you will figure that out quite fast when trying to get petrol. We had huge difficulties the last two weeks obtaining fuel. We now carry additional 15L on each bike.
If they sell to you it will also not be more than 5L or 10L at a time.
The price of fuel increased from 17birr a litre to well over 22Birr a litre now in just over a week. On the black market expect to pay up to 30Birr a litre but do not pay 40Birr a litre, these people see travels come a mile away and WILL screw you for as much as they can take.
If you coming from either Sudan or Kenya stock up on petrol as much as you can.
Lastly the petrol in Ethiopia is really dirty I use coffee filters to filter the petrol in the bike tank and the stuff left behind in the coffee filter is a red residue that dries and looks like a fine red residue.
