Tanzanian TIP hassles
From September 2010 Tanzanian customs have issued a new edict regarding the temporary importation of foreign vehicles by non-residents.
Despite extensive protests, Customs would only issue us with a TIP if we used a customs agent to clear the vehicle (and thus assume the risk if the vehicle is not re-exported). No bond was required, but the customs agent stings you with another set of fees (which are negotiable) to complete the paperwork. Expect between US$50-US$100 for the customs agents fees and another hour or so in hassle at the border.
This was for a 4x4 - not sure if they will require the same of a motorbike.
Having said that, it is still cheaper than a carnet........
