What's needed for a Sudan (north) visa in Addis?

Any recent experiences with getting a visa for Sudan (north) in Ethiopia? I have an Australian passport. No plans to visit Uganda but if getting one in Ethiopia is next to impossible I may make the detour.

Getting Sudan visa

Hia, you can get your Sudan visa in Addis, in 24 hours all you need to have is an Egypt visa, if you have an Egypt visa then Sudan will issue you a 14 day transit visa, cost $100 US. You will also need photo copies of the visa, passport photos, and a photocopy of your passport along with your passport, they are helpful but the consulate is bloody busy everyday. Get their early.
You can get an Egypt visa before you travel or this is also available in Addis but took 3 days last year, also availabile in Harare. I am an Ozzie passport holder as well.

Hi. Thanks for the reply! What happens if you don't have a visa for Egypt? I not sure but I may decide to try to get a Saudi transit visa in Khartoum.

sudan visa

if you do not have egypt visa then you have to apply for a normal visa and use an agent in Kharoum for this, who sends your application to khartoum for approval, your approval then goes to the embassy location you have specified and then you are issued the visa. The cost is adding on the agent fees and add about 1 month at least to the application process.... so have the egypt visa to make life easy.

Hi all,
on our way up Ethiopian-Sudan-Egypt we managed to get the Egypt visa last week, but now the Sudan embassy/consulate is insisting on an (invitation?) letter from the Khartoum Ministry of Foreign Affairs to issue a Sudan visa. We don't have this letter... Any ideas?
(we are in Ethiopia/Addis at the moment)

If it is still possible get your Sudanese visa in Nairobi. It is very straightforward (we dropped off/picked up same day), cheaper and you don't need an Egyptian visa (which means you can pick this up on the Wadi Halfa/Aswan ferry and not waste time applying at an embassy). Visa is valid for 2 months (ie you have two months to get in) and they usually give two weeks (though some have had 2 months granted).

wow, that sounds easy. unfortunately no chance to go back to Nairobi. We are now working on an invitation letter from a random contact in Sudan, see if that works. Will update here when successful. Thanks!

Update from today: The Sudanese embassy in Addis refused our invitation letter from a friend in Sudan and insisted they need a letter from the Khartoum Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Trying different channels for a solution, but getting quite desperate here...
