Hello!

I will travel the A6 and A8 in Zim in the begining of January.
What is the situation with the road blocks (tips please) and fuel?

Thanks all,

R.

Roadblocks in Zim are fine. Police are polite. We didn't have insurance for our 4x4 until we got to Harare where we got a comesa yellow card for about a dozen african countries for $2.00US a bargin. Once we had it we got asked for insurance-strange how stuff works.
As far as fuel goes we got it from farmers in the countryside for about $1US a litre. Many people to help you find some. At the time(Feb 05) it was very hard to get sugar and cooking oil in Zim so we took some along for exchange. Ended up just giving it away.
Nice thing about Zim is it seems like you have the entire place to yourself as a tourist.
Good luck
Gus

Police

We did Zim quite a bit. Never saw 1 road block. Diesel is a bit of a problem, petrol not that bad if u prepared to wait.

Dont take pictures of any uniformed people. Ever! or the government buildings or the leading parties HQ.

I would hate to think what would happen.

But do go to Hwange reserve. Its outstanding and they could really use the forex. Awesome place.

Just came back from zim two weeks ago.

Road blocks were no problem - they are mainly looking for "minerals" i.e: gold & diamonds.

Diesel available at about 1USD per liter, petrol you'll have to queue for.

Hwange safari lodge brill; Sikumi Tree lodge brill; Matobo Hill lodge brill; Kingdom hotel expesive so we stayed at the Rainbow in Vic Falls.

Hwange is amazing. Awesome night drives. If you are close enought to Kasane near Caprivi, cross the border to get fuel...loads in Bots

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
