Thumbs up Very nice looking bike

Very nice Rob,
How substantial do you reckon are the bashplate and the engine bars?
Also, what was the delivery time from your dealer?

Dave,

It looks pretty sturdy -- it should certainly stop stones being thrown up to hit the oil cooler, filter or manifold pipe, and resist a fairly good knock. If you're worried about the bike bottoming out, then note the manifold "pokes through" the bottom of the plate by a couple of mm.

I was pretty lucky with delivery time, they had this one in stock, so it just took as long as it took to get the top-box and fittings from Givi and for me to sort out insurance.

I was originally thinking of the V-Strom Grand Tourer, but apparently Suzuki are backlogged on the pannier deliveries, and I really wanted the bike to head up to Scotland as the last time I did that on my old Bandit 600, it was definitely starting to show a bit of strain.

You can get the bash plate and screen separately from Suzuki (search for "skid plate" on the Suzuki UK website), and note the centre stand isn't included, I paid extra for that. Having said all that, as the bike doesn't have ABS, it is still cheaper than the standard V-Strom.

Hope that helps,
Rob

Hi,
I've had my 650 for two months now here in Saudi and planning to ride home to Bolton UK. Had loads of bikes out here and up to now seems to be the best compromise for what I want from a bike. The bike was in the local showroom and is a K6 model which I got for SR 23,000 or £ 3066, the down side is that their service and workshops are crap but I do my own service and repairs anyway and they don't seem to be able or won't get me a centre stand or any other bits that I want so I have to get them in UK.
I use soft saddle bags off a marauder and I made a bar for the left side to hold the bag out from the wheel etc the same distance as the can, works well and not too wide.
Cheers
Ian

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
