DR650 Exhaust

Hi All,

A friend of mine has a DR650SE which has been sadly accumulating dust in his kitchen (don't ask!) for the last 5 years. The reason for this is because his silencers (yes, I know, I said silencers)corroded and when he went to get a price from Suzuki in Spain (where we live) they wanted 900 euros EACH!

First thing is: why is it the only DR650 I have seen (and I have been trawling the internet for weeks looking for suppliers for weeks) that has TWO exhausts instead of one?

I beleive it's a 1994 model.

I need a helpful supplier (the details of, to help us get him on the road) and although, as I say, I live in Spain, I transit the UK twice a month so a UK dealer/supplier would be best.

Secondly, I'm reasonably technical and it seems to me that there is a good chance that after 5 years, if the engine was last stopped on an intake or an exhaust stroke, the relevant valve springs will be compressed and therefore damaged. Is this so?

Thanks for any help in advance.

If it's a 1994 it's not a DR650SE, that model was built from 1996 until today. The earlier DR650 (I think yours might be an RSE) had dual exhausts as standard, you don't see them too often because it didn't sell too well and went out of production 15 years ago.

For parts for the earlier DR I would check with Hessler in Germany, he also has 2 exhaust options for your model. Do a single exhaust conversion to save a ton of weight and probably equal or better performance:

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
