Advice on riding a bike for import from the middle east
Hi all, I'm new here, and am looking for some advice. I have a second hand Harley I've owned for two years, and am moving back to the UK from Qatar. I want to ride the bike back; probably by shipping to either Turkey or Greece and then riding it the rest of the way. I'm looking for advice on carnets, how to pick the bike up in Greece or Turkey, what paperwork I need for the whole trip and to import the bike into the UK. Any info much appreciated.

Hi Jon and welcome,
You should not need a carnet at all, Turkey will give you a temporary importation permit and one is not needed for the EU if you import into Greece, I presume it is registered to you in Qatar and that document has an English translation, if not one will be helpful. I am not sure which country is easiest to bring into as far as paperwork and cost is concerned.
You will also need insurance, not sure where you would get that for Turkey, they sell it at land borders and there might be an office in which ever port city you use that can sell you some. For European insurance these people should be able to help. Welcome to motosapiens.org | motosapiens.org
I am not sure if it is still the case but if you had owned the bike for six months before and kept it for 12 months after you could bring it in to the UK tax free as a personal import, I would contact HMRC before leaving and see what the procedure is, more info here and about registering it in the UK, although your bike won't be an EU spec model you should get single vehicle approval for it which is also covered here. https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicle...outside-the-eu
