Bugger.

That's it really. Devestated is an understatement of the way I feel at the moment.

5 days into a 12 month trip round down to Cape Town and Back from the UK and its over.

A wet road and diesel claimed another victim. On Thursday I was riding through spain when the front washed out. I went down and the bike punished me for it

Now lying in a Spanish hospital in Granada and after a few hours in the operating theatre I have something resembaling a leg again.

As soon as I am able to ride again I'll choose my route and go again, this hasn't put me off but made me more determined to do this and see it through. This time the conclusion hasn't been fantastic but one day it will be

Ride safe.
Richard

Sorry to hear about that. Don't think of it as over, just delayed for a few weeks / months.

BTDT&BTTS. Trust me Richard, it'll be even sweeter when you're fit and able enough to pick-up where you left off.

Meanwhile, at least you got the pretty señoritas (nurses) to oogle at! ..

Heal quickly mate ..

Been there done that unfortunately.

It wasn’t a spill that did me in but a unique set of health circumstances that caused me to have to fly home to Canada from southern Mexico two years ago while on our trip to Panama City.

Bugger is a good word for it. I got stuck on D words like: devastated, dejected, depressed.

It took me a good long while to get over the fact that I did not make it along with my mates to Panama. But I did and finished a trip up to the Arctic Circle this past autumn and that put me back in the grove again to go back travelling.

Like any serious crash anywhere anytime is to not let it stop you from getting on a motorcycle and going again. Ever. Just like being bucked off a horse one of the most important things to do is get back on and ride again.

Take care. Heal quickly

sockpuppet thats guttin mate. still tho chin up and all that! i took a spill last thursday, not far away from home and no serious damage. i look at it as another of lifes challenges. gonna fix the bike tmrw, been out of action for too long.

just remember that diesel on the road aint your faut man, and bones heal. as soon as your ready get ur arse back on the road and ride. it helps; motorcycles can crush the spirit and they can make it soar like a phoenix risen from the ashes!!!

heal quickly brother, and enjoy those spanish nusres (you lucky git!!!)

Just thought I'd hand out an update

Back in the UK after getting a flight back to the UK. Got to have more surgery in the coming weeks but hopefully nothing major.

Shouldn't be too long before I am on the trail again.

Good luck

So you were recovering in Granada with the help of attractive Spanish nurses and then you returned to Leicester to complete your recovery.

Did you land on your head or something?

Only joking. Get well soon and finish what you've started.

This is bad news, but I'm sure you'll recover with no problems.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
