Cracked Flange - Could be painful - 2004 R1200GS
So there I was, in the garage, getting the 2004 R1200GS ready for another years of traveling about the EU.
Already changed the clutch plate after riding like a prat last year on the wonderful hilly bits in Slovakia, Austria and Italy.
The rear brake disc also needed changing after using Granite based brake pads for 5000 mile which reduced the weight of the rear disk by about 20% !
Ordered the disc from motorworks - arrived next day and I was all set to fix it on the bike.
Thats when I noticed that all 5 bolt lugs on the flange that holds the brake disc were cracked.
Hairline fractures on all five.
Quick google check and its appears to be a regular problem with 2004 GS's.
One chap had a full failure whilst on the road and had to continue sans rear brake.
I mention this so that any 2004/5 1200 GS owners may want to give there flange a quick check before it all goes badly wrong.
(new one cost £150 + labour .. I'm doing my own changing because I'm like that)
