hi viz in france

I'm hearing that motorcyclists in France from 1st January 2013 must wear a retro-reflecting device with a total surface area of at least 150 cm ².

Maybe we should all get reflective swastikas made for riding in France...

There are also rumours of ROI following France with hi viz rules by 2014, not ideal for those of us in NI who occasionally stray across the border. Maybe all of Europe will follow, as has happened with other legislation.

Has anyone heard details of the French plans to ban all vehicles over a certain age from towns?
Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet from the French green party, has successfully submitted proposals to ban all vehicles manufactured prior to 2004 from city centres, including motorcycles. Riders who commute on bikes that were manufactured before 2004 may not enter French city centres or else see their machines immobilised and issued with a fine of 65 euros payable on the spot. The same rules apply to their car counterparts in an attempt to reduce congestion and pollution in all cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants. The French government has recently approved Kosciusko-Morizet’s proposals although no official date has yet been announced for their implementation.
I'm not sure how scrapping perfectly good vehicles and making new ones is an eco-alternative!!!

Apart from having the best name ever invented for an organisation these guys deserve some support - Fédération Française des Motards en Colère (FFMC – French Federation of Angry Bikers)

Some details are here - http://ukfrancebikers.com/

We can support FFMC in their campaign by lending our support to MAG, they are working with other rider's rights groups across Europe to try to nip this in the bud before it spreads Europe-wide.

+1 on supporting MAG. They are waging a very effective and professional campaign, and deserve the support of all UK bikers.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
