The definition of 'active' is difficult to measure; someone who loaded a thread half an hour ago and is still reading it (I have HUBB configured to load 100 posts per page), is of course still active. So the count of active users normally means anyone who accessed the forum in the last hour or so.
Yes, 200+ of those were registered members, most of the other 1,700 were probably web crawlers from Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Yandex, Bing, Yahoo, and many others, who follow links all over the Internet to provide search facilities.
But not to play it down, 200+ is a great number as a snapshot.

This is a GREAT forum. I purchased the video package and have now watched it three times. Great content, and its helping me plan, organize and get ready to hit the road with confidence. I also plan to renew my subscription, cause this site deserves support. And, I am not using it as much as I will be when I get out there in the dirt......What a valuable resource.
Facebook is a dyeing platform. And I hate using it. The web is not going away. Stay the course - and support it by spending $ here.

Wheelie makes many good points regarding HU, membership and use of the site.
I find the HU website to be a great source of information because of individual contributions. The HU site is clearly an on-going source of information on almost every topic for travelers.
I have a simplistic view that if I use and benefit from the information on the site then I, at least, should be a member and contributor.
We all have experiential learnings from out travels that can/could be useful to others. I have learned from others the best method to ship my bike, equipment that is most useful and ideas on packing etc.
I am not an expert but have given presentations at HU Meetings in the hope that the the things I learned on motorcycle travel may make travel easier for an attendee. HU is comprised of many great people who like to share.
The HU site is a historical source of information on just about any topic (Facebook on the other hand is here today and gone tomorrow).

It amazes me how many people view each of the sub fourms & yet some haven’t had any activity in days / weeks
Maybe everyone has done their job & every question in the travel / adventure world has been answered?
& big that’s to our leadership Grant!

HU is absolutely a site that people READ, and a common refrain is "that's already answered, just search" - so they're doing that!
Of course we'd love to see more ideas, discussions on anything, so feel free to start something! This is a great time when we're all stuck at home to get into ideas, and discuss different ways of doing things.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
