Silverton Notes -2007
Patrick.....you asked about the Silverton HU Meet last year - I attended from north of Calgary enjoying lots gettin to Silverton including the only glacier in Nevada, Utah Hwy #12, Burr Road, Moab, Ophir Pass, among others....meeting site is the local ski hill lodge which was great - no showers - lots of good camping at hand and only a short walk to town amenities.
I used town food (made up some pico de gallo) but the caterer's fare looked very tasty and word was that it was.
About 140 people showed (roughly) - good variety of folks - Oz, US, Canada, Ireland, etc. Lots of informal groups got together to go ridin around the many passes in the area - lots of variety (difficulty) - and lots of stories from those jaunts - lots of others spent all day out in the 'parking lot garage' - it did rain a little off and on during the meet which is probably pretty expected in the mountains. Lots of tourists in the town.
I stayed mostly around the event using it as a resting spot after the run down. I did a short video presentation on the Great Divide route.
I'd go again in a heartbeat cos I can combine the trip with travel along new routes. Will miss this year though - will be at HU Canada West and with trips planned in Idaho, Alberta and other commitments, July in Silverston just doesn't work.
I'd highly recommend the event - particularly because of the riding in southern Colorado and Utah - some of the best there is. Think about doing a presentation at the event. You've posted lots of good stuff on the site - I'm sure folks would enjoy hearing directly about some of your Baja runs or other Bike based experiences.
