The Mayan Calendar and 2012
I have heard several different interpretations of the Mayan prophecies regarding *December 2012.
* Gregorian calendar.
As you probably know, the Mayan Calendar has been credited with predicting everything from the dawning of an age of enlightenment for humanity to complete and utter destruction of the world a we know it today.
Some have said the Mayan's were predicting a solar X class flares similar to the solar super storms of 1859 that overloaded telegraph lines.
I can not think of a more appropriate venue to collect your thoughts, the thoughts of over landers everywhere on planet earth....as you become aware of the differences and similarities of 2012 to other years you have lived or learned about.
Your prophecies welcome too...and any report of events that can be attributed to any Mayan Prophecy are especially welcome.
I will reserve my judgement until reports from all continents begin to flow in, and as they do I will look for common threads among the reports that might indicate a worldwide event or events.

That may or may not happen but in any case the only thing I am worried about is not to be able to go for another nice trip before that happens.

There was a news item a few weeks ago in the UK about this issue; the end of the world forecast for some day in Dec 12. They inferred that the document(s) are interpreted in this way because "pages" are missing, hence it ends in Dec this year.
But, just in case, best get out and ride more.

X class solar flare (CME) due to hit earth Jan 24,2012
NASA has advised that a coronal mass ejection (CME) was observed Sunday describing it as an extreme ultraviolet flash from a hugh eruption on the sun.
Throughout recorded history the sun has had 11 year cycles, currently the sun is in Cycle 24 and a "solar maximum" for Cycle 24 is predicted for 2013.
Sunday's solar flare was rated as an M9 eruption, or just on the verge of being an X class solar flare.
What if anything this has to due with Mayan prophecy is unknown at this time.
Any information, especially of you riding Mexico, Guatemala or other current or former Mayan strongholds, please ask your local Mayan Shaman or Mayan Elder and report findings here.
Thanks

I have the exact same plan, go to the meeting in Viedma and then spend the "end of the world" at the end of the world.
A nice video I watched some time ago about this "end of the world" thing...

Mayans winter 1968
My first motorcycle ride through Yucatan, Mexico was 1968 after the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. I was on my way to the States after working 2 years in Costa Rica.
I spoke with many, many Mayans. Including a Mayan princess who still sang in the native Mayan language. My first hand account of what the Mayans actually said about the future was very much in line with this video.
Real Maya Prediction of 2012 !!! - YouTube
Since 1968 I lived and worked in Mexico for 3 years and each Mayan I met, and there were many, said more or less the same thing.
Why some people have attributed destruction as opposed to enlightenment to the Mayan Prophecy, I do not know, I would like to hear more from you, before deciding what I believe about the Mayans and 2012.
And here is more than you probably want to know about the Maya calendar.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
