What was the first thread and post on the HUBB ? And is it still live ?
After randomly finding a twenty year old post on the hubb; it made me wonder.
Is the first ever hubb post still knocking around in cyberspace ?
And what was it ?

I don‘t know but there has to be a fair chance that it would have been which is the best oil / tyre / bike and a ruck ensued.
Which reminds me, can anyone tell me what was agreed on those bests?

Those posts are dated March 2000 - yet my join date for the HUBB is 15 Aug 1999. How is this possible..?

Yeah I have no idea what’s up there, it’s all lost in the mists of time. BUT. I suspect I know… we were on UBB forum software then, and obviously something got messed up in the conversion to vB. So, where’s the real first post? Hmmmm….

And, I BELIEVE Bruce is the FIRST user signed up, after myself and Susan, so big kudos to him for still being here and posting!

And another by Werner Bausenhart, 27 July 1999:
https://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hu...nos-aires-2330
BUT apparently Werner signed up 28 April 2002 - so something definitely got screwed up somewhere in the conversion/update. sigh, I thought we had it 100%. Conversion probably went alphabetical at some point and assigned numbering, but who knows, anyway, there's some good early ones for you!

Sushi, CompuServe sent us an email that said in essence "You can have a website" - and we said "what's a website?"
That was around December 20, 1997. So we uploaded a few pages, and the WEBSITE started December 27, 1997, when we uploaded a few pages to CompuServe, from Ushuaia, while we waited for our ship to Antarctica. The pages were just extracts from our emails home!
By the time we got back from Antarctica, there were emails waiting for us asking how we got into Tunisia and others. We started answering them, and discovered that people were asking the same questions often, like "what's a carnet?" Eventually it dawned on us that it would be sensible to start a forum where people could ask and get answers by other travellers. But of course that took a while to penetrate my thick skull! And to find decent software that would do the job, not so easy then.
So to answer your question, MY start date is the day the website first existed - and yes it was "Horizons Unlimited."

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
