Bike Security in Cambodia
Most people concern about the bike security in Cambodia after renting one. You migh lose ur bikes as someone steals it. if your rented bike get stolen, you are lucky enough coz you are safe but not the bike :P
well if you ride a bike which is popular among youngsters, your chance to get robbed might be high. I recommend one which is a bit out of date--year made and so on. I recomend you to go for the quality rather than the look. As i have been in Cambodia for kinda long, the newly released bikes are popular among the ganster. So they can rob you and sell for good price. once u got robbed, chance to find the bike is tiny coz it seems like everyone owns one.
if you rent a bike and the rental shop offer you a chain lock, you should take a look if they chain lock is tough enought. A hard push backwards and forwards can break that so called lock. so ask for a good key or even two.. the safe way to lock your bike is by putting the key ( solex brand does best with that---check if the lock is genuise) into the hole of the front of rear disk brake.
I dont think thief want to spend more time working on ur bikes rather than going for the bikes with lose key. do not trust the key which turn ur bike off and on since that key migh malfuntion after being used too much.
And i dont know those robbers will go for a cheaper bikes rather going for the new and much more money.
If you park your bike in a restaurant, guest house, hotel or some other places, ask people at the parking lot for lil note. one will be put on ur bike and one will be given to you. so when u lose ur bike, u can use that lil note to claim back. lil money like 10 cents to 25 cents should be given as the fee for bike watch.
feel safe enuff?
