A safer Mexico
Hey friends,
I am about to embark on my moto journey South. I find that the general response from friends and family is that i am crazy because of the dangers that linger in Mexico. Some of you may be able to relate to this response. While i acknowledge that there is danger and i need to exercise caution i refuse to let the violence in Mexico prevent me from experiencing the beauty of the country. I also realize that there is safety in numbers and that i would love to ride with someone on a leg of my trip. From what i hear the first 200 miles after crossing the border are the most dangerous so i'm asking if someone out there is planning a similar trip through Mexico beginning with the Baja peninsula and would like some company. I am beginning in Oregon and plan on crossing from California and going down through Baja. Whether we ride for the first few hours after the border or ride all the way to the tip of Baja i would love to hear from you. I plan on being ready to cross the border around the beginning of November but my schedule is flexible. Any interested takers can respond here or email me at rpopma89@gmail.com. Cheers!

I'll send you an email messave.
I'm in San Diego and ride in Baja quite a bit. I've camped on beaches between Santo Tomas and San Quentin recently.
Let me know when you'll be in town and I may be able to ride with you for the first day or so.
Dan
See my last 3 or 4 ride reports to get an idea of where I ride.

In the Central/Mexico forum there is a thread showing statistics about Mexican safety. It is quite safe.

MotoHill -- I'm an ex-Penticton/Kelowna RT1100 rider currently in Green Valley AZ near Nogales, hoping to cross this coming week (Nov 12 0r 13, 2013). Hoping to partner up with a dependable buddy. Where you at and might you want to meet up e.g. 'Team Canada'?
Cheers,

I met up with Ryan and his loaded for Mexico Bonny last weekend in San Diego and rode down to Ensenada with him.
We stopped in TJ to get his visitor visa then took the coastal road down. Beautiful way to start a motorcycle journey.
I heard from him a couple of days later and he's doing fine. He visited a small fishing/farming village (ejido) that night and is continuing south.
Here's the ride report and some photos: I Never Finish Anyth...: Doing the Baja Bounce: San Diego to Ensenada, up and back

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
