General Bolivian 'police' warning
Reading about the Peruvian police thing reminds me of an incident I had in Bolivia and apparently it happens a lot. A plain clothes'cop' will stop you, show you an Id and ask to see your passport, papers and then quite simply not give them back till you pay. What to do? Apparently the rule is don't give your papers to a plain clothes 'cop' and insist showing them first at a police station. That is the law anyway. If he asks you to follow and it looks as if your heading away from people or down an alley ask someone on the street the the police station is in the direction he is leading. They usually disappear if you are untrusting enough and bring other people into it.
Another tip, don't trust local info on where road blocks (strikes) are. Wrong info can lead to stoning.......
Apart from that Bolivia is stunning and amazing
Happy rides
