Sorry, we haven´t heard from Ian since the 19th Sept when he was in Bogata. However we know he stayed with Paul Thoresen in Medellin at Casa Kiwi. I´m not sure of the dates but I´ll email Paul and ask. Also, I know Ian had had some problems with a broken clutch leaver and a couple of other things which slowed him down. I have a couple of other contacts in the north of Colombia who he may have met up with and email them. Fingers crossed. Please let us know if you hear from him.

Ian stayed with me at my hostel Casa Kiwi in Medellin for about one week mid September. From Medellin he was headed to eastern Colombia, on his way to Venezuela. He said he was to meet a friend in Venezuela, and then planned to return to Colombia. I haven't heard anything from him since September 29th when he sent an update from Barichara.
I'll be sure to post an update if I hear anything.
Saludos, Paul.

We had a guest in my hostel in Medellin November 23rd, who said that he had just been with Ian in Merida, Venezuela. Tony is a friend of Ian's from the UK. Apparently Ian has been in Merida for a while, and is just fine, but can't drive at the moment because of a hurt shoulder.
At least we know that he got out of Colombia without any problems, and was fine a week ago. I remember Ian as not being a particularily internet savy individual, so I don't think we need to be worried if he hasn't sent emails to anybody.
Saludos,
Paul - www.motoadventures.org

Hi Paul,
so, this is good news, somebody met Ian just a week ago.
You are right about Ian using the internet and two months is not that long for Ian not to contact anybody anyway. So I will let his wife and some other friends know, that he has been seen in Merida.
Thanks Paul

Ian and Judith Coates
I spent last weekend with them in Southern Mississippi, USA. Sunday, Ian, Judith, five other bikers, and my self went to eat at Chatom, Alabama, USA. The Coates are healthy, happy, and well. His bike is in transit to Panama. After he picks it up, he is planning a ride to Alaska. My friends and I have plans to meet up with him when he gets from Mexico back into the States.

Ian's in Panama
I have recieved an e-mail that Ian has made it to Panama. As you know of him, it may be 12-18 months before he gets back to the USA. He plans to tour all of Central America while on his "little bike ride". If I learn more, I will post here. Also, Judith is back home after touring with Ian.

Ian Coates news!!!!!
Hi, I met Ian in my gas station in Tegucigalpa, Honduras the 8 of August 2008. We spent the whole afternoon talking. He was very gratefull how my family treated him. He spent that whole afternoon telling me stories of the many places he has been. He returned the morning after to say goodbye. He was heading to La Paz (small city in central part of Honduras). He told me was headin to El Salvador then to Antigua in Guatemala.
