Simon Milward

I recieved the following e-mail earlier today, our synpathies are with Simon's family

-----Oorspronkelijk bericht-----
Van: Antonio Perlot - FEMA [antonio.fema@chello.be]
Verzonden: maandag 7 maart 2005 15:07
Aan: committee112@fema.kaalium.com
Onderwerp: Sad news- Simon Milward
Urgentie: Hoog

Dear Colleagues,

I am sorry to be the bearer of such news, and hardly know how to choose my
words. Upon our arrival at the office this morning, we received a call from
a police officer in Mali, reporting that Simon Milward had passed away
following a road accident. The accident took place on the afternoon of the
4th of March near the city of Kayes, and FEMA's was the only telephone
number Simon had on him at that time. We do not have any other information
for the moment.

We called Simon's family and the British Consulate in Mali and arrangements
are currently being made in order to repatriate his remains to the UK. As
colleagues and friends, we thought you would want to share our mourning.
Please do not call the office this afternoon as this is all the information
we have, and we would like to keep the telephone lines free in case of need.

We will let you have further information as we receive it.

Antonio

We Just receive a mail telling that Simon Millward dead in Africa in a car accident.
To much traveller knew him. He was at home planning like always his presentations and his project. We fight a lot and we were disagreeing in a lot of topic. But we had one in common, follow our dream and try to catch it. He dead in the road, on the same way he lived.
We don’t know more than that.
I hope he find what he was looking for.
Sandra & Javier…

Yes, I'm gutted. A few of us were planning to meet up with him on his way back up through Europe.

I posted here http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb...ML/000006.html

Mike who keeps his site and mail list (we set Simon up at the beginning with comms and advice on geek stuff) is considering along with FEMA next steps. Somehow I want to see Simon's great work recognised through his website for encouragement and posterity.

Bless those lives you touched Simon and the goodwill you created in this world. May your memory live on and inspire.

John.

I'm very sad, and I mean very sad!
I much admire Simon and his endless adventure spirit, many of us share.
I love his home build bike, only one passionated traveller can build that!
We are just so similar, even I didn't know him in person, I'm sad about the loss of a brother.
I'm also sad about this years "to many" bike casualities, what is wrong these days, why is there so much bad happenings in the world?
We'll remember Simon, honor to you my friend.

Mattias

Today, I went seeing some friend bikers at an association in Toulouse city.
I started talking with a woman, I told her a biker has died in Mali, doing the same activities as myself; bike travelling.
I said his name is Simon..the woman suddenly looked very sad, it then appeared she was one of his old friends, strange how the world is small, isn't it?

Anyhow, she told me to forward her very sad feeling for Simon..she had been a responsable for the french motorcyclists association, and had been knowing Simon via his fellow association in UK, long ago, before he started travelling.
Now Simon & familly has every french bikers feelings of sympathy.

My deep condolences to the family, I did not have the pleasure to meet him but we all are a big Heart together.
I send my love to all of you and I can see his smile somewhere anxious to ride again.
A big hug to all his family and friends.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
