Cost
I have spent about £1000/mth but have been going slow and about the third of the time staying with people. But have also done quite a lot of expensive activities.
You can expect lots of bad driving (c;
All the best with your planning,

Bonjour.
Going solo or travelling with someone and thus sharing a room can make a big difference to cost. Sharing rooms and camping etc I'd allow $30-40 / day for food/gas/accommodation in South and Central America. Then double that budget for North America.
Ideally, you want to be in Alaska in the summer months, eg July/Aug etc and hit TDF in the southern hemisphere's spring/summer which starts getting warmer around December.

hi,
we were on 2 Africa Twins, did 60 % camping/staying with locals and 40 % hostels. For eating, drinking staying overnight, haveing fun, gasoline, borders, maintenance of the bikes, we needed about 1000 euros per month (both together). It was about 1700 in Alaska ( and gas was expensive there) and 550 in Bolivia.
Canada: ca. 1000 Euro
Alaska: ca. 1700 Euro
USA: ca. 900 Euro
Mexico: ca. 1000 Euro
Central America: ca. 700 Euro
Ecuador: ca. 900 Euro
Peru: ca. 800 Euro
Chile: ca. 1000 Euro
Bolivien: ca. 550 Euro
Argentinien:ca. 800 Euro
you are cheaper when u are camping n the woods more often and drink less .
we have been in Juli/August in Alaska in Mexico from Jan to March and in Patagonia around x-mas. If you travel slow, talk to locals and behave relaxed and positive you will prob. have no problems at all but lots of fun.
take care
Martin

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
