With regard to the challenge, I'd subscribe to Reinhold Messner's view that the different technique & routes he used made each summit a first, even if it was a mountain that others had already climbed. To keep with the mountain theme, a million other bikers have done North America to Ushuaia, but as far as I know, my friend and I are the only ones who also climbed Aconcagua on the way. But even if it turned out that a thousand other bikers had climbed her too, that wouldn't change the satisfaction I get from biking - which is less about novelties that few others care about than the satisfaction of challenging oneself.
