Complete bastard, or what?
I want to go to Istanbul on my bike. My wife doesn't understand it, and will be worried witless. She won't stop me and does accept that I want/need to travel; I always have travelled (though never on a bike) since I hitched there in 1969. I wanted to go by myself, but I have had to agree that having somebody with me would make more sense.
And, yes, I think that I do know the answer to my question.
Any comments from people that have been in this situation, please?

I haven't, thankfully - but drag her to the UK Travellers Meeting - I think that experience will make it her feel a lot better!

Had a same problem if she sat on the first time to motorcycle and i told her we're going to travel with it - "what if we crash, what if we get robbed, what if...???" paranoia.
But after few "wild campings" in Poland she eraised all her paranoia, now we've done circle around Europe mostly (wild) camping and planning for "Evil Axxis" Middle East countries next and so exited about the whole motorcycle long-distance travelling
Practice, practice, step by step... Sure meeting some travelling people help her reduce the paranoia too.
Cheers, Margus

...and thats me talkin',father of 3 and married for 11 years now, it's got nothing to do with the love you feel for your dear ones,
just follow your visions brother!
in the wind again, soon,
Dogo

Thanks, all
No, my wife does like bikes, but because of her back pain she hasn't been on the bike for a few years now.
Two things bother her: one is the fact that there are far safer ways of getting there than on a bike (can't argue with that one) and the other, that it's not the safest place to be, she remembers the bombs that were let off there in the last couple of years by anti-western extremists.
As things are it does look like that I can't get anyone else to come with me as far as Istanbul at such short notice, so I guess it's going to be the Italian Passes this time, I think I've found someone to come there. Could be worse...
Thanks again,
J

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
