Deisel Motorcycle?

I heard some germans modified their enfields for deisel use. Has anyone ever heard of this? Are there any stock bikes that use this deisel fuel? What kind of bikes are easiest to modify from gas/petrol to deisel?

It's not vailable commercially, but the U.S. Marines use a Kawasaki KLR 650 converted for use on diesel fuel. Check out www.f1engineering.com for more info. Enfield made a diesel version of the Bullet at one time, maybe they still do.

As an Enfield owner I'm not sure I'd want to sacrifice even more power for economy (I've heard the Deisel Enfields are even less powerful than the Bullet) but whatever floats your boat! I had heard that Enfield had stopped making them but I could be wrong.

I have just checked the Royal Enfield website and there is no mention of a Deisel bike.

More research suggests the diesel Enfield was an adaptation of the Bullet built by more than one company, not Enfield themselves. It apparently had massive MPG but the performance (quite literally) of a moped. Its not clear wether they are still being made but it would appear not.

The German Enfield Diesel was the Centaurus.
The site www.centaurus.de is now redirected to a normal Enfield importer site so I guess they stopped building them.

I bet you all know where my mind is going with this... biofuels (corn oil, etc). Biofuels and motorbikes, now we're talking real miles per gallon (or should I say kilometers per liter). My dad and I are toying with a sort of father/son adventure with the challenge of using biofuels only. Zen and the art of... with an eco slant. Has it been done?

the Indian Royal Enfield used to make diesel bikes,veeeery slow and noisy but also very eceonomic to run.

I saw a tv programme that featured the worlds slowest accelerating vehicle and it was a diesel Enfield 350 bullet. If you really wanted one you could probably get one adapted, but it looked to defeat the purpose of a motorcycle. The alternative might start a new cult: RTW by rotovator or ride on lawnmower.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
