Help for Australian to buy a bike in W'Europe

Hello.
A friend put me onto HUBB forum and it has inspired me. Going riding for 3 months around West Europe. I did a search and couldn’t find old posts/articles with answers to my questions, so I hope someone will be kind enough to help me out with my enquiries.
Have been looking at my options. 1. Transporting my bike over by sea (not too keen about for various time restricting reasons), 2. Hiring a bike ( very costly for 3 months but do like the thought of all insurance , road side service and taxes already taken care of but not all allow the bike to be taken out of it’s boarders ) and 3. Buying a bike somewhere over there …..this is where I really need advice.
Looking at buying either in Spain; that’s where I’m landing and will be spending sometime with family before setting off. North Italy ; I need to meet my travelling companion there . Or UK; because that’s my first language and I have confidence in communicating on my own.
I normally ride a CBR600F that has been lowered to suit my height and have taken it everywhere,( it does mountains very well). So a similar capacity bike of sports/tourer type is what I’m looking for.
Does anybody know what is required in taxes, registration, insurance and legal requirements for this to be possible in these 3 different countries? I’d love to hear of your knowledge and/or similar experiences in these areas.
Thankyou all.
Enjoy the ride and safe travels.

I recently helped out two Australians doing similar things. Firstly someone bought a bike from ebay in the UK (with the xchange rate this makes them uber cheap). Then you need to find someone in the UK who will let you register the bike at their house in your name, then you have a rego doc with your name on it. Then find someone to ride it to where you want, you'll have to factor in a contribution to the costs of ferry/petrol/flight back.

Second person bought the same bike, picked it up in Greece and I handled the V5 transfer from the UK at the same address.

Insurance can be a tricky one though - I'd seek advice from someone else on that!

Thank you Ta-rider.
I hadn't considered Germany as a purchase point.
I thought Spain, Italy and UK would be my better options. I don't know anyone in Germany to help me or leave a bike with until sold after I leave like I do in Spain and maybe UK.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
