Ok Ted - we hear you, so me and the hubby are going to book the campsite this weekend. What date do you want to come over?????
The pool will be closed from mid-Sept onwards, but that doesn't matter does it? (It matters atm because you need it to cool down - it's only 40C now!)
1600 miles one way, but petrol is 1 euro per litre here and food is really cheap. Will that scratch your itch?

Hey there...
I feel better already
Im just having a bitch because im so impatient and havnt been away on the bike in AGES. Also the rain is really pissing me off. We've had 3 dry days in 6 weeks (yes iv been counting lol) Really puts a downer on my mood.
I start my new job in the Motorcycle dealership next week. I will need to have a chat with the boss about time off. I cancelled my trip to the Portugal meet due to this new job so im not going to bend over for him again
Thing is, because its seasonal, I think I would be daft getting anytime in August and September off. Its the busiest time then with the new registrations coming in and its the period that I earn the most comission (and boy I need it).
Book your campsite for whatever suits you and the majority best. If I cant make it I cant make it. It wont be the end of the world. Im sure I can wangle most things if I put my mind to it though.

Ted vale la paciencia!
Man you need to put yourself together!
Otherwise you will get insane, hahahaha and dont enjoy our landscapes.
Try to focuse on every day life, and tribial stuff.
Of course it depends on how ansious you are about this trip.
What you obviously are,so take a long cold shower. Relax and keep saving.
As i live in Argentina i only need to sit on the bike and ride..... its all here.
I don´t remember to have this feeling you have now before.
During my stay in germany i could visit a lot of countrys.Calculating all by my income. But a gig trip like yours is money consuming thing.
Keep the nerve and focus on the escential thing: your mind.
The trip will come and go faster as you desire.
Cu here sooner or later

Lee & Ted
Lee - I was talking about you the other day ( http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...ck-hello-28079) and nice website.
Teddy, I know how you feel. I had large debts and after 18 months of trying to save I'm....still in debt. I see the student debts as just another type of tax but I've only halved my other debts. I have at least managed to also buy my bike and the gear and I'm ready to go...8 weeks and 2 days until I do!
My plan...I'll be getting a personal loan the week before I leave. Although it worries me to be in so much debt, I think at some point in the future it will only be £xxxx less of equity in your house or one shiney new car less. I also like to think it's the same cost as having not been a smoker (at whatever it is...£5 a pack, £10,000 must be about 10 years worth of smoking).
I have to admit though, I wish I could have had the patience (or maybe discipline) you do to save it all first. I always finds things easier when the pressure's on though (if you money's spent you have to save!).
See you on the road (or at the next HUBB meet)
Chris

A new plan
Iv made a dicision !!!
I start my new job in 1 week. Im going to give it 3 months to see if I like it.
If i like it then ill fight the boredom, keep saving and go away with savings in November 2008, as originally planned.
If I hate this new job then im getting a small loan to cover my short fall and leaving THIS November.
Ill only need a small loan as i have a few grand already and will just sell most of my stuff for anther grand or two.
I didnt want to get in debt again but it will be a small loan and easily paid back within a few months of saving when I get back.
Lifes too short to be bored shitless !!

Quit your debts and see the world- all at the same time
Hello my dear friends who worry too much and even worse: worry about silly things.
Whats happening to You is the way it all starts, or more correct .... ENDS!
You are on the way way to become law abiding, "responsable" citizens in a capitalistic world. (called Democracy to make us believe we have something to say in this "civilized" world)!
I had a study loan that I was paying off for years but it never diminuished. There were always the odd months where I simply could·nt make ends meet and this added punishment interest on the debt so I was back to where I was months earlier! It was·nt fair. Lots of my friends, who had·nt chosen to study, were all just fine, making money and living life. I started to calculate how many years it would take, with the crummy wage that I would be making, when having ended my studies, and found out I would be a fairly "mature" (age wise) person when I could start enjoying the fruits of many years of suffering, and .... decided enough·s enough!
Got a job in a foreign country, and hav·nt heard a word since : "thats the way to do it, money for nothing and the chicks for free"!
Anyone, to whom this sounds a morally, not correct thing to do, just keep on paying, till You end up working to make the status quo system function,
the stinking rich stay that way and laugh their bullocks of when they think of their slaving herds of sheep: You and I.
Who·s laughing now, eh eh eh?
PS. don·t pay tax either!!!! and definitely: DON·T be daft enough to vote for any of these lying bastards!
Love and piss of to them.
Dan

Want More, Do More
My son and I have a part-time tree trimming business. If I need extra cash for vacation, bike gear, extra stuff, we go out on weekends and WORK.
Typically $500 on a Saturday. No big deal. Pretty easy. Cash business.
Bottom line: If you want more, do more.

life
Long ago I discovered it was just too hard to save, then put everything in storage, travel, come back to nothing, with nothing, get a crummy job and start all over again. Now, I work as a photographer/writer WHILE I travel. Currently in Colombia where I'm 'stuck' for a few weeks catching up with work, as I don't even have petrol money to get to Equador! It's getting easier financially, but for me, this is most definitely far more pleasurable than having the crummy job. I'm usually broke, but I was usually broke with the job and lifestyle I hated to!

Lorraine made a great choice and that's what is meant by thinking outside of the box .
A practical person with skills can always find something to do to earn a few bucks to fund the next stage of their journey .
Work for cash , avoid the taxman , a message close to my heart - good one Dan !
Ted ,you should maybe buy a couple of "trade-in" bikes , fix them up and sell them on ,get some cash that way .It all helps .
Thanks to Nigel [on another thread ] I've got a great theme for a trip in Aus/NZ [thinking outside the box again ] .
The HUBB is a great place !

also
I met an argentinian biker in quito. When he travelled, he used to make some cash by making those hippy necklaces/earings etc... that you see everywhere in touristy places. The raw material is very cheap and you can make a fair bit of money for little work by selling to tourists.
That friend would have a trick: he would not say the price of the items but would ask the buyer, give me what you want for it. Sometimes he got little money but sometimes he got a lot! by doing this you remove the bargaining bit and the buyer don´t want to appear mean! good idea I think!
Also, Ed, I´m a banker, trust me on this one: DO NOT USE A CREDIT CARD to fund your trip!!!! Anything but! If you´re really desperate, get a loan at a decent interest rate but not credit card!!!!
Also may sound silly, but "menial" jobs can pay well. Cleaning staff (in London) make up to 10 pounds an hour, money in hand. Do you have 3 hours free on saturdays? If you´re good, people will pay for it!
You´re a programmer? Private evening lessons? Why not? I used to make good cash (tax free!) by giving math lessons to spotty teenagers when I was a student! It is good money!
So maybe see you in Ushuaia for Xmas then!
good luck and be patient! Shell put it very nicely!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
