Question Posting pictures. HELP before I loose it!!!

I'm trying to upload some pictures on here, but the file limit seems to be only 39kb. Using Irfanview, I'm trying to crop, compress, colour adjust to bring the size down, but in order to do so I end up with a featureless spec of an image. I look like some witness protection program that the production team have tried to anonymise.

How do others manage to save decent sized pictures with decent looking resolution and I cannot...

Is it because I is not a MAC user, innit? Ayii!

I'm not a Mac user either . I Photoshop mine to resize and optomize photos, but if you don't have a something like Photoshop, try this:

Online Image Optimizer: Optimize your GIFS, JPGS, and PNGS online.

if your running XP or vista you can download a little official and free microsoft power toy application called "image resizer".. (google it)

It is embedded into windows and you simply right click on the image and select "resize". It then gives you options...

VERY easy...

Another way is to "host" the image on a website. FILESHAK is a free one where you upload the image and they provied you with a link for the image which u can post into your post or paste it into the image bar (the little yellow button with mountains at the top in the text editor)

You don't need to resize the images if they're already hosted on the 'net, you just need to create a link to them.

I host mine on Smugmug & can post the same pic in varying sizes, all depends on how I size the pic on Smugmug that I'm linking to.

Resizing is generally only needed if you're uploading a pic direct from your hard drive on to the HUBB server. Resizing is normally required to minimise the file size only to stop the server being overloaded.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
