Practicalities of buying bike in East Europe and riding back to UK
I quite like the idea of taking a train to Minsk, Kiev, Gdansk or St Petersburg, buying an old/cheap Soviet-era Bike and riding home very slowly to the UK. Nothing fancy or expensive, so that if it packs in en route, I can afford to have it picked up by the local scrap yard. But... I'm too old and respectable (ahem) to want to risk any legal entanglements along the way, so legal ownership, tax and insurance are going to be a consideration.
Of all the above, I'm guessing third-party insurance is the most important, so I'm wondering if there's a temporary policy I could get that would basically cover me for any bike for a month? My own bike insurance covers me to ride other bikes, but I doubt their interpretation of 'emergency cover' would include this scenario somehow.
Any idea? Or experience of something similar?
