Prepaid SIM card - annoying spam
Have I just made bad choices with local SIM cards when travelling, or is it normal to get gratuitous advertising messages with them? I've had this happen to me in both Indonesia (really, really bad) and Russia (not so bad). I got stupid text messages promoting themes, ring tones and so on. I only figured that out eventually because I couldn't understand them without help.
I don't use the phone much and it's mainly for security in case of an emergency. So I want max battery life between charges. I could get probably a week between charges, if not for the infernal, unwanted messages that keep "waking" the phone and wasting power.
I will pay more attention to it next time and try to buy SIMS that are free of advertising, if there is such a thing. I'm not very knowledgeable of prepaid conventions as I only use them when travelling.
