shipping parts..
whats the trick with having parts shipped? specifically so they are ahead of you while on the road? what do people do about destination addresses? is it best to pull a hotel name from lonely planet & email them etc?
if using a hotel address how / where does the part need to clear customs i.e. where do you pay the charges etc?
thanks

Maybe get a list of dealers from your local dealer, if there are any, depends on what bike you a re running, and get in touch with htem as and when. Mine was Yamaha and had no probs in Africa.
Otherwise could try Poste Restante? I used it in Ethiopia, though one item ended up on some guys desk in head office, but I got it, eventually.
Sorry if this doesn't help at all....trying...

Most people have parts shipped via DHL or sometimes UPS or FedEx, and pick them up at the DHL etc. office.
The DHL office will sometimes offer to handle customs clearance for you -- they're just trying to make money. You should be handle to handle all customs clearances yourself.
I would never use a hotel ... well, maybe if it was the only option. Too much likelihood the parts go mysteriously missing. Hope this helps ~~

A little story here about DH Hell: Chapter 17 The Big Trip
I have successfully used poste restante at post offices, friendly bike dealers/mechanics and TNT. How about contacting HU communities?
Please: NEVER USE DHL
Enjoy your trip.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
