Spare parts service?
Hi there,
a friend of mine who is organizing all the technical stuff for me (getting spare parts, giving technical advice etc.) just asked my if there would be demand of a commercial service like for things like that.
I doubt it, since the numbers of overlanders should be too small for building up a business and most of them probably use familiy members or friends.
Any other opinion?
Cheers
Lars

Hi
Somtimes it would be good if there was some one you could call, they had the part you wanted or could get it in a set time and could get it to you any where in the world.
I`ve been on the road now for 4 years, how many of us have been stuck waiting for parts being told that they are on there way and finding out that they have not left the shop or are stuck in airport customs, there is nothing worse than being stuck waiting for a part, even the simple things can some times take for ever to get to you.
Some times it makes no differance if you are in a city or the country. If there was some one who could handle finding the part for you, shipping it, import and customs and were at the end of a phone or on the internet 24 hours a day when you needed them most i know i would use them.
Iàm glad HU is here to help when things do go bad some one allways seems to be able to offer advice and help. Skip

Spare parts 'service'... yeerrr right...
What 'we' want is to find the nearest part to fix the problem .. nearest because that will take the shortest amount of time to get to us! Then 'we' want it shipped to us ...now! Not at the end of business .. not when the next courier calls .. as 'now' means it get on the next filght that happens to be today .. not next weeks filght that is the next avaliable filght.. So 'now' becomes very important is some parts of the world.
Of coures 'we' lso want the right part! So they need to know the parts ... and we'd like it at a reasonable price.
The worst 'service' is ordering the part in, but then they find out it is a 4 week wait for the part to come by boat from Japan... effin useless fdjashfkjastlij h
Advice? You can get that here, or on a number of web sites ... what is needed is understanding ... both sides of the conversations...

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
