Vehicle Payloads/Gross Vehicle Weights
Hello i am not sure this is the right place for this but any feedback is most welcome.
We are taking a Discovery 2 across Western Sahara next year and fully loaded are slightly over the Maximum Gross Vehicle Weight.
BUT the weight is fairly well distributed, the center of gravity is as low as possible (long range fuel tank and underbody protection has not helped the weight!) and we have fitted Old Man Emu HD springs and sports shocks, steel wheels and good AT tyres.
The Max GVW is around 2850 kgs and we are likely to be more like 3000 kgs but this is only when full of fuel and water (which sadly doesnt stay full for long!)
Should i have sleepless nights about this??
Thanks
James

Hi
Have you actually weighed it full up? So could be even more than you think?
Personally i would want and aim to be a bit under the gross. If I was over I definitely would not be having the likes of underbody protection.
To make decent use of any vehicles capabilty you need to be under, not at, and not over! How much easier would all those lovely rough tracks be on a standard empty vehicle, "enough" fuel and water, two sleeping bags, small one burner stove etc etc. That sounds like fun
Good luck anyhow

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
