That is the hottest time of the year here. In the south it is not uncommon to see temps in the high 30's. Not saying you shouldnt do it then, just carry plenty of water. In the north it is the wet season, also high 30's and extremely high humidty with monsoonal rains. .
You may also find that you will be limited to the main roads in the North during the wet, which means you will miss the best parts. ie Kimberly's, Cape york etc.
Best travelling times in Australia in the North are the winter months, but in the south it does get cool (not really cold unless you go up into the Australian alps)
