Cairo to Cape Town via East Coast Starting late October

Hi Guys,
I left Los Angeles a week ago departing on my RTW trip and am currently cruising across the U.S. visiting friends and working out the bike on familiar roads. I ship from Toronto to London mid-July and then after touring Europe for a few months I intend to head down the East coast of Africa from Cairo to Cape Town beginning late October. It would obviously be beneficial to travel with other riders so if anyone is planning a trip along a similar route and would be interested in either joining me or inviting me along for their journey it would be very appreciated. I'm happy to leave a little earlier of later in order to accommodate a mutually convenient schedule. So if anyone is interested, we've got 3-4 months to plan out any logistics. Thanks.
Cheers,
Remy

Cairo to Cape Town...

Hi Remy, Hi Mago...

I am also planning on riding Cairo to Cape Town later this year - still looking at all my options for Egypt which seem to be a) fly and freight in, b) ride in by way of Libya, and c) ride in by way of Jordan. What are your plans regarding this? If we all wanted to go the Libya route then there seems like there'll be an opportunity share costs etc. for the guide.

I'm presently putting the Carnet together with the Canadian Auto Agency as I travel through Europe, but I'm set to begin in Alexandria via ferry (got the Egyptian Visa while I traveled through London) but it is not yet set in stone until September. Apparently there are still some problems as an American getting the Lybian Visa, but I'll double check that with the CAA. It goes without say that I'd be beyond excited to have partners to ride down with. Aside from the obvious security benefits, after two months into the trip already I'd be glad to have some company. I should have Internet over the next week as I lounge in Barcelona so let's figure out the logistics to make this happen. Cheers.

Late October..

Hi MostlyHarmless, Remy

I am currently in Egypt (living here). Would be ready to travel south by late October.. Does that sound in sync?

I have only one month for this trip, but would like to have gone south to at least Tanzania/Ughanda.. Then I'll probably ship the bike and fly back..

Cheers..

Late October sounds good to me, although it does sound like you'll be wanting to do a lot of riding in a short time... Perhaps there is a chance to team up for the Egypt, Sudan to Ethiopia run...

My initial thoughts were the same. I've loosely scheduled approximately 6 months to travel down the continent so that I get a chance to really imbibe the different cultures. I rather agree with what MostlyHarmless said, it would be great to have you along. Regardless for what duration, it would also be wonderful to meet up when we're in Egypt. The idea to have someone familiar from a local perspective would be an invaluable experience.

Great. I'll prepare myself then for a late/Oct early/Nov heading south.
What bikes are you on? Have you ridden desert before?
Let's take this on to emails, would be easier for me to track and respond.

Cheers.
