Laid Off in London
Hi Jamie,
I already got laid off in London and have a DR650 and just about to head to a language school in Guatemala. I would have liked to travel with someone but didn't really find anyone for the long haul but it isn't so bad as have met plenty along the way.
If you want to know what the trip will be like you can have a look at my blog as I write most days http://www.alaska2argentina.co.uk
All the best,
Annette

From Cuba, there are several flights to the US, and travel to and from is only prohibited for US citizens. There are weekly charter flights from Cien Fuegos to Los Angeles, and Havana to Tijuana. Cuba is majestic and you are correct in wanting to see it before the impending political shift. Someday, a communist dictatorship will only be a footnote in history. As noted in my five trips during the nineties smuggling anti-biotics to local hospitals, life under under Castro's police state, for whatever reasons, is incredibly difficult for Cubans. Viewing a nation in transition...what an experience!
Also, unless you enjoy smog and choking congestion, forget Mexico City for Spanish lessons. Oaxaca, Oaxaca, or if on the coast, Puerto Escondido (surf city) are nice places to hang and absorb Mexico's wonderful culture. Remember, rainy season here begins mid-summer and hurricane season ends around first of November. In order to bask in endless miles of vibrant green countryside under sunny skies, the best time to head south from the US is late October.
When passing through Mazatlan, I always have a spare room for long-riders.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
