China crossing Laos-Mongolia/Kyrgyzstan spring/summer 2015

Hello everybody,

we, Lina and Bruno, are planning to cross China, with our own vehicle, in spring 2015 (April/May).

Entering China from Laos, leaving towards Kyrgyzstan/Mongolia.

If we leave China towards Mongolia or Kygyzstan is depending more or less on the quotation of the agencies and/or interests of other travellers who want to join the group.
The time April/May is more or less fix, regarding our following plans.

We are travelling with a campervan (James Cook) on base of a Mercedes 309d (1988).
We would appreciate very much to find other travellers who want to cross China around the same time, to get a better price for everybody

Until now we got following quotations: (current change rates from RMB or Dollar into Euro):

Laos-Mongolia:

Navo-Tours: 26 days
1 car, 2 driverr: 4117€
2 cars, 2 drivers each: 3724€
3 cars, 2 drivers each: 3240€
Including: usual „paper-work“; help to enter and exit China ; Guide-transportation (maybe also possible in one of our cars); Vehicle Deposit;

Mrs. Spring: 15-17 days (good references from other travellers)
1car----4450€
2cars---(4450+1580)/2=3015€
3cars---(4450+1580+1380)/3=2470€
4cars---(4450+1580+1380+1230)/4=2160€
Including: usual „paper-work“; help to enter and exit China; Vehicle Deposit; guide is travelling in one of our cars

Tibetreisen: 18 days
Tour price for 2 persons with 1 vehicle: 4089 €
Tour price for 4 persons with 2 vehicles: 2477€
Tour price for 6 persons with 3 vehicles: 1933€
Extra costs for possible additional day: USD120,- per day per group
Including: usual „paper-work“; help to enter and exit China; NO Vehicle Deposit, you have to leave the deposit at the border by yourself

No guide:
Ricard (no guide; he organized the tour without guide for Laura, see other posts):
Seems like you can stay in China as long as you want
1 car: 6548 €
3 car: 2881 €
guideif wanted: 392€ per day (including guide car)

Laos-Kyrgyzstan

China overland: Laos-Kyrgyzstan including Tibet:
Seems like 1 car is already doing this trip in April with this agency
2 cars, 4 person: 5448 per car

Navo Tours: Laos- Kyrgyzstan, without Tibet (26 days):
1 car, 1 driverr: 7138 €

We will still get in contact with other agencies.

Until now we favourite Mrs. Spring or Navo-Tours. We want to cross China in the cheapest way.

Does anybody know something more detailed about the deposit? „Tibetreisen“ told us that we would have leave 8000€ deposit at the border. Actually we cannot wait a long time to get this money back, so that until now we favourite agencies which pay the deposit for us.

We are looking forward to get in contact with others who are interested and to your answers.

Lina and Bruno

Hi Lina and Bruno
I am interested in this trip, I prefer the 26 days crossing with Navo tours, and it seems if we have 2-3 cars together, the price would be good, could you please send me some details about the 26 day itinerary and quotation? my Email add: pure.bing@foxmail.com
Thank you very much.

Crossing China

We are a group of two vehicles departing Laos for China on 16 April and exiting 26 days later at Erenhot into Mongolia. This is with NAVO and is a firm booking with deposits paid. We're happy for others to join us to reduce costs further. Let me know if you are interested in talking further.

Spring is a great guide

Hi Lina and Bruno,

My wife and I have just completed the same trip but in reverse (arrived in Thailand August 2015), We used Miss Spring and I must say that we could not have had a better guide, she was very knowledgable about China and the planning of our route was fantastic.
We did however meet others doing the same trip that used a Dutch/Chinese company that also uses Chinese guides and they were not very happy at all with there guides performance, they said that a week before meeting there guide at the border the company could still not tell them the name of there guide.

When asking for quotations the difference we found was that only Miss Spring would confirm that it would be her that took our party of 4 vehicles across China and she would pay the deposit required at the border and that was included in her price.

My final point is that Miss Spring was recommended to us by other overlanders so I would like to recommend her to you.

I wish you good luck and hope that you have as good a trip as we did and if you need any info I would be more than please to help if I can.

Smile China - Kirgisistan / Myanmar -> like to join us?

Hi Lina and Bruno!

How are you doing?

We are just starting our trip but we are still organising our crossing through China. So far we are a group of four vehicles going from Kathmandu to Kirgisitan in approximately 18 days, starting on the 20th of April.

I'm not sure whether this schedule fits your plans, but we would be more than happy if you like to join us!

We are also going trough Myanmar with a group in March..

If you like to join us or meet up somewhere along the route just send us a mail to singatominga@gmail.com

Best regards,

Hauke & Anja

Hello Hauke and Anja,

thank you very much for your answer.
But we just came from India and Nepal and dont want to cross Myanmar again just to cross China with a bigger group.

We hope you have a good time in your travels, enjoy Myanmar, India and ofcourse Nepal, its a great country!!!
If you dont know where to go, Overlander-Camping, in Pame, near Pokhara is a beautiful spot. You "have" to go. Say hello to the owner, Erich.

We also found a group to cross China from Laos, so we are fine.
