Anyone riding through Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia starting mid-January? Planning to catch the ferry (Aswan to Wadi Halfa) on Jan 17, 2011.

Hi Sherif,
this is Ed, the travel companion of Lou who is Egypt at the moment whilst I am here in UK for Christmas etc.
Am in touch with Lou who may be heading and am debating onward travel, clearly better as a pair?
Do you have a visa for Sudan already since if I continue I would need to get this and believe it is possible to pick up in Aswan.
Please drop me a line
Best wishes
Ed

Hi Ed,
Good to hear from you.... there are two other riders as well so that makes us 5. I sent an email to Lue and Paul, one of the other riders, yesterday. Let's see if we can meet up Cairo or Aswan.
Visa to Sudan seems to be easier in Cairo or Aswan. Not having any luck at the embassy in Washington. I sent passport to Ethiopian embassy, and should get it back within a few days.

Hey Guy's,
Wish you good luck over there, because of the irregularities in Sudan. I was planning a trip from Norway to SA, but a friend of my from Egypt advised not to travel trough Sudan.
Please keep us informed of the situations.
BTW the trip starts in April 2011.

Sudan
Hi guys, Lou and Ed, we are already in touch.
I have been to sudan a couple of times, and done the trans over north sudan. I also live in Tanzania and have seen some really nasty stuff down there ten years ago when the elections went bad.
We intend to catch the ferry on the 3rd of Jan with our motor. BUT .... we have not heard of major nastyness in northern or centre north Sudan. Sure the south will vote to split, the north seems to accept this, but even if they do not, my info is that the north should not be badly affected by this situation. I would not be keen to be on the north south border area at the time of the referendum or afterwards, but I THINK that the standard route Wadi halfa to khartoum to gedaraf to gallabat to ethiopia should remain clear of major issues.\
We are putting our money where our mouth is, and will be there at the time, but ... you never know.
cheers
Raf
